Folks, it’s time to reset your vetoes! Why you ask? Well, we have just launched the most extensive map overhaul in COH2 history. Map design is a seriously overlooked component of game balance and overall enjoyability. A few clever changes can make an unpopular map into a fan favorite battlefield…. if players give the reworks a chance.

This map patch has been driven entirely by fantastic members of the community. It’s not an exaggeration when we say the team has put in hundreds of hours of work.

SoE Sturmpanther has led the charge, while working with top mappers such as Rosbone, MonolithicBacon, LordRommel, Capiqua, Siphon X  and Wuff. Together they have rebalanced 21 current maps.

What’s more, the team has extensively overhauled three maps, which will be returning to the automatch map pool.

Two of these maps are a surprise! Stormless put together the following teaser video. Check it out and see if you can tell what maps are making a triumphant return.                                                               

THE MAPS

Note - In addition to the changes listed below, red cover near bases has been removed on almost all of these maps. Additionally, pathfinding has generally been improved, and cover balance has often been reworked.

1v1 – Map Changes and Main Takeaways

Angoville – This COH classic has seen a sector rework. The unique VP layout remains the same, but the West side now has an extra territory point as a counterbalance. Key chokepoints and cover items have been added/removed/changed – Rework by Rosbone and Sturmpanther

Lost Glider – Elevation issues resolved. Imbalanced middle Victory Point has been reworked. An extra path from each base has been added. Rework by Wuff and Sturmpanther

Caen – Returning to automatch – The cutoff system has been reworked to be less punishing. Some key parts of the map have been widened to be less close quarters orientated. Overhaul by MonolithBacon and Sturmpanther

Westwall – The houses around the VPs and cutoffs have been rebalanced. Extra paths and flanking options have been added to muni points. Many dragons teeth/ tank traps have been removed from the map center. Elevation has been removed and reworked. Rework by LordRommel and Sturmpanther.

Road to Kharkov – Major sector rework and rebalance of the Northern cutoff and fuel area. New routes to make flanking more viable. Major elevation changes implemented. Key cover items reworked. Rework by LordRommel and Sturmpanther.

Vilshanka – Bunker icons in base have been fixed, along with some other quality of life changes. Map and rework by Tric and Theodosios

Semiosky Winter – Removed from Automatch

Kholodny Ferma Winter – Removed from Automatch

Minsk Pocket – Removed from Automatch

2v2 – Map Changes and Main Takeaways

Region d'Eindhoven - returning to 2v2 Automatch – In the past this map was known for its crazy elevation issues but was otherwise well liked by many. We hope you enjoy the new version! Overhaul by Rosbone, MonolithicBacon and Sturmpanther

Elst Outskirts – Already arguably the most balanced map in the 2v2 pool, the garrisons on this map have been tweaked and a problematic line of sight blocker removed. Rework by Monolithic Bacon and Sturmpanther

Fields of Winnekendonk – Pathing has been improved by opening fences and hedgerows, and line of sight issues have been resolved. Rework by SiphonX and Sturmpanther

Road to Kharkov – Major sector rework and rebalance of the Northern cutoff and fuel area. New routes added to make flanking more viable. Major elevation changes implemented. Key cover items reworked. Rework by LordRommel and Sturmpanther.

Moscow Outskirts Winter – Removed from Automatch

Ettelbruck Station – Removed from Automatch

3v3 - Map Changes and Main Takeaways

New 3v3 Map: Fields of Winnekendonk – Pathing has been improved by opening fences and hedgerows, and line of sight issues have been resolved. Rework by SiphonX and Sturmpanther

Oka River – Houses reworked to rebalance the two side of the map. Some new paths have been opened to improve gameplay. Rework by Rosbone and Sturmpanther

Angermunde – Two stone hills have been widened to improve flanking. Pathing in the base areas has been improved, and some line of sight / pathing blockers have been changed or removed. Rework by Capiqua and Sturmpanther

Hill 400 – A new infantry path has been added through the middle of the map. Rework by MonolithicBacon and Sturmpanther

Port of Hamburg – a new bridge has been added to the middle VP area. New paths have been opened and line of sight issues have been resolved. Rework by Rosbone and Sturmpanther

Rhzev Winter – Base pathing has been improved, and a new strategic point has been added to the south side of the map to mirror the north side. A new path has been opened between new strategy point and the middle VP. Ice has been removed near the cutoffs on both sides of the map. Rework by Rosbone and Sturmpanther

Steppes – Reduced elevation around middle victory point, cover rework, and various quality of life changes. Rework by LordRommel and Sturmpanther

Lienne Forest – More flanking options in the Eastern forest. Object rework in the center of the map. Garrison and pathing fixes implemented in the Western town Rework by Rosbone and Sturmpanther

4v4 - Map Changes and Main Takeaways

Ville 17 - returning to Automatch – Elevation problems have been resolved, strategic points have been rebalanced, and various other quality of life fixes have been implemented. Overhaul by Capiqua, Rosbone and Sturmpanther.

Steppes – Reduced elevation around middle victory point, cover rework, and various quality of life changes. Rework by LordRommel and Sturmpanther

Lazeranth Ambush – A complete rework of the right-hand Victory Point and surrounding cover. Major pathing changes. Rework by Rosbone and Sturmpanther

Lienne Forest – More flanking options in the Eastern forest. Object rework in the center of the map. Garrison and pathing fixes implemented in the Western town Rework by Rosbone and Sturmpanther

Lorch Assault – Major rework of the castle and surrounding area. A strategy point has been added to balance the two sides. Fuel positions have also been rebalanced. Rework by Rosbone and Sturmpanther

Port of Hamburg – A new bridge has been added to the middle VP area. New paths have been opened and line of sight issues have been resolved. Rework by Rosbone and Sturmpanther

Vielsam – Removed the s-mine fields in the middle victory point. Both fuel points have been rebalanced, and a building added to the right hand fuel. Buildings have been replaced and reworked. Repair point changed to medic station. Rework by Rosbone and Sturmpanther

Hill 400 – A new infantry path has been added through the middle of the map. Rework by MonolithicBacon and Sturmpanther
